We have been striving to keep our Eco School status this year. As a result of the hard work of the the Eco Committee supported by Mrs McCallum and Mrs Rennie, we are proud to announce that we have been awarded our 2nd Green Flag. This highlights that here at Blacklands we are committed to working in a sustainable way and reducing our carbon footprint. 



The whole school entered the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET) ‘Grow, Cook, Eat’ competition. Groups or classes had to choose an item of Scottish grown produce and create a poster detailing how you would grow, cook and eat it. Primary 1 came third in the Ayrshire wide competition!! Well done Primary 1. Here is there winning entry:

We have achieved our first Fairtrade School Award in March and we are now a ‘Fairaware’ School.




In 2013 we achieved our first green and this year we are renewing our green flag status!  :mrgreen: 




The whole school contributed to creating our Eco Code, we renew our code every year. This year’s is an acrostic poem:

Our 3 main topics for this year are Litter, Food and the Environment and Sustaining our World.

Litter – To continue litter picking and take part in the community spring clean event.

Food and the Environment – Take part in ‘Waste Wee’ and for children to learn about food cultures from around the world.

Sustaining our World – Link with a school in another country and achieve our first Fairtrade school award (‘Fairaware’).
